cheers wombat, it will be two tone from the body line, it is clear in the newer photos with more paint work done. for the engine i have had merv grey performance in launceston bulid the standard A12 to race spec- lumpy cam, high top forged pistions lightened fly wheel, fully balanced weber carb, etc. i hope to buy some deep dish super lights soon for it.

That's if Merv Gray doesn't lose half your motor, not a huge fan of those guys. I have heard a lot of bad stories from mates of mine.

this looks like its coming along really well, at least it looks like you can still get aftermarket panels for the 1200, makes it easier btw is that a wing I can see on the back of the coupe in one of the pics? hehe

Ha! i LOVE the painted wing and grille, and the paint scheme. Black and toxic green are my two favourite colours! The wing is a bit too rice maybe, but it will be unique.

Gday everyone, cheers for all the comments. It is great seeing what other datsun fans think of your builds. Here are some more recent photos. Rough rendering of the paint scheme to get the idea... some photos of the interior painted... Fraz: i bought the new mud guards and front stone tray off Niel Richardson in westbry, he has heaps of parts and is a great help.

From sick to smick! It's lookin great. I thought I recognised some of Neil's parts. My first car was a very sick poo brown Torana, not a hatch coupe or a bloody VL!!

For the engine im using the A12, but it isnt in standard form.. Merv grey machined the engine as a "usable race engine". It has been decked and skimed for higher compression, high top forged pistons. 40thou over from memory, high lift cam, custom twin valve springs, 1600 valves, modified combustion chamber area in the head. ported and polished. polished crank, new bearings oil pump and internals. For fuel a weber 32/36 and a set of hitech 4 into 1 extractors, 2'' stainless exhaust, maybe a hot dog to quieten things down a little coming out in either a side pipe or a dump at the diff. The painted grill will match my design i am trying to achieve, and its something i havent seen used before. Cheers heaps for all the comments!! it makes it easier to get stuck in and do work on something when other people are excited in seeing it finshed.. hopefully by Power cruise in launceston..

sounds good, and staying true to A-motors. i think you will need the hotdog, A-motors with a 2 inch are LOUD, i had to get a hotdog for mine. the 4 into 1 headers are awesome as well, and torquey. you can really hear mine coming on strong from about 3000rpm.
oh and i love the pencil drawing!

update.... I found my cam spec sheet, it has 287 degree duration, and 7.065mm lift, this is nearly identical to the tomei sunny 1200 engine, my A12 has the same specs as the tomei engine, here are the specs, www.tomei-p.co.jp/tssunny/sunny_spec_en.html , the only real difference is I have a slightly smaller carby. i will scan a couple more of my renderings from different angles soon.

Im running a 2inch system with a hot dog and Cannon Muffler and mine is still to loud. Think I need to put another hot dog or a big free flow muffler instead of cannon.

Ordered a set of superlite wheels today, 13x7s 80mm backspace, with a black centre and BIG polished lip . also enquired in a coilover kit and R31 front brakes. rear leaf springs are currently being reset 2'' lower. Engine bay, interior and underbody is masked up ready to finish sanding and preping the exterior paint. hopefully i will have time to assemble the engine in the next month or so, Keen as to hear it running.. Should be LUMPY as!!

Gday every one! My new wheels have turned up!!! they look the goods, hang outside the gaurds nicely even with 185/65 13s on the 8x13'' rims. The stretched tyres look JDM but will probably run 205s.
