Thought it was about time to tell bout my ute!
Bought it for $3000 with brand new panel and paint (ford metallic blue), pretty good paint job for a backyard job. Had a std. A12, extractors, 2" exhaust and milo tin tip! Completely re-upholstered interior, nice carpet, bucket seats and lining and 14" delta mags.
Sorry bout that huge photo...
Bloody dirty there...
3 weeks after i got it, i blew the lil A12 up.. well i got home and there was oil on the underside of the bonnet and it seems it thru the rear oil seal out. Dunno why havent investigated yet!
But that was the starting of the project. I stripped my sunny down and put the complete front end in, new lowered king springs, munroe gas shocks and complete front end of polyurethane bushings. Then came the A15...
This donks been in and out of the ute 3 times now with problems caused by me, fitting and just generally needed to.
Engine specs are (this is a bit long winded but this is copy and pasted from else where )
Engine:
20 thou overbored A15 (tubbed,honed, decked etc)
Endurance pistons 'slightly' oversize
Polished & ground crank
Fully balanced bottom end
new bearings, gaskets, seals etc
Waggot cam, grind #127D - great midrange torque and rev's to bout 8000rpm
Rollmaster adjustable cam sprocket and timing chain
Decked and slightly ported head, extra swirl job, de-dagged ports, new seats & guides
Double valve springs
lightened flywheel (was 9.8 now 5.2kg)
Twin 40mm dellortos (had them completely overhauled not 1 week ago!) on a redline manifold
Electric fuel pump feeding into some regulator i bought from the mainland - upgrading to a malpassi soon
Gemini '74 radiator - i always knew holdens were good for something!!!
Thermo fan on front of rad
Top gun leads, NGK 'v-groove' plugs
Std. points - really needs electronic ignition
GT40 perfomance coil
Datrat's Extractors
2" exhaust with sports muffler
The engine is my child.. but problems always seem to arise! atm im having a 'milkshake' problem which ive narrowed it down to a slightly warped head as there isnt much water noticeable in the oil but just enough. talked to david at merv gray (they look after me there!) and he told me that at max theres 15psi of water pressure in an engine when oil pressures regulary are at say 60 - 70 psi so indicating that there is water in the oil means that only a slight amount is getting thru.
Anyway, some newish piccies are on the way... this weekend definatley!
Im definatley happy with the engine (if the problems wouldnt arise) the performance jump from the semi standard A15 to the twin carb'd power is amazing. Just such a sweet tone and smell when at WOT, it puts a smile on my dial everytime i take off from the lights to be able to pull away quickly from other cars and also the sweet sound of them!
Any comments welcome...
Cheers
Dave
