that dizzy looks completely different to the ones I have. left is straight out of A N12 and right is with the A series cog fitted.

HA! Thats cos i couldnt find a picture of an N12 dizzy! i wondered if anyone would pick up on that. well the dizzy swap was a total success, you need an early (1200) A series adjuster plate to get it to work, the 120y plate is the wrong shape and the vac advance hits the head. I used an L6 plate (= LEGO) drilled a hole in it where the retard/advance graduations are . i used a 3/16 chainsaw file in a drill (one of my favourite tools) to slot the N12 adjuster to suit. it ended up 180 degrees out of whack with the a- motor dizzy, just swap the plug leads around and it goes! It runs much smoother and has better response, cant run quite so much initial advance though, it pings a bit.

;D ;D ;D SU's are great! running brilliantly with 15 degrees advance and the electronic ignition. yes i did it! i smashed 6.5l/100km! i went 600km on less than 40L of fuel. And to do it i needed a BIGGER engine and TWO carburettors!! cruising at 95 (mostly = i try to be good ) using top gear as much as possible ( much easier with the SU's and A14) on 96 octane ethanol blend. the guy i bought the manifold from said SU's would give an extra 14kw to the A14. he didnt say anything about fuel economy. fast and frugal. i love datsuns

and this is what it looks like now. NOTE heat sheilding frenzy, bonnet vent and exhaust wrap. that exhaust wrap is pure evil! so if you play with it watch out, i had to throw away a shirt because of that fibreglass stuff- it sheds. SU carbys hate heat; as you can see mine are happy.

i scored some gold, picked up a couple of engines from the Datman, one of them has an N47 cylinder head. this is relatively rare, the yanks call it a "maxima" head i think early maximas in the states are like R30's. there is another N47 from L28 engines with a much larger combustion chamber like an N42 also with exhaust liners, this is pus and is often confused with the Maxima version. the z car nuts in the states reckon this head is tits for N/A performance as it has the SMALLEST combustion chamber of any L6 head (39cc) and gives high compression (9.4:1 on my early L24E) and good swirl in the intake. it has steel exhaust liners for emissions which cant be removed but still flow up to 230HP. you can see in the picture the N42 (44cc) chambers on the right are huge and the N47(39cc) at left are kidney shaped and almost flat. = good junk!!

VERY small ports, 44mm...... ;D Did you shave it..... Be carefull with compression, mainly 'cos of our shit pump fuel and OEM gaskets. You could end up with octaneboosterism

no shaving, i did all my calculations BEFORE i took it in to be done. so there will be no nasty pingy surprises. fuel supply will be more than adequate as well.
i didnt get any porting ect done either both to keep the cost down and because theres no point making the intakes flow more than the steel lined exhausts can handle. if it can flow over 200HP in standard form then thats all i need.

my EFI upgrade is becoming a monster. i need some new extractors which dont leak and are thick enough to weld in oxygen sensors. my old ones were 2nd hand when i got them 13 years ago. so im looking at some of these from the USA. Australia doesnt have a wide enough selection and even with $200 shipping they work out about the same as a new set of Hitechs. and these are 6 into 1!!

those 6 into 1 babies have been ordered! but i blew my budget, wont be able to afford a full 21/2 inch system as well. so looks like its back to the good old days = dirty big SIDEPIPE! like i used to have when i was 20. the Datfreak will remember hanging out the passenger side window watching the big flames belch out of it! but this one wont fall off
