Datltd, I dont know about RB's but Davros is pretty good on FJ20's, his 1600 does a 10 second 1/4 mile!!! worth a talk to...
The P76 did 68.9's, so not that quick.......I know a n/a L18 powered 180B that went quicker than that, but it did sound tough, and sure was different, which is always good. Then again so is a quick 180B!!!! he he he...
As for toe in, I'm a sucker for pigeon toes!! cute as...well um err, toe in is suppose to help turn in, but I know the 4wd boy's (GTR's Evo's WRX etc, not Patrol Cruiser WW2 Jeep) love a bit of toe out to um er help there turn in, so I dunno. The above suggestion is what I ran when I had fairly std spring's and a weldy. As for the Gearcalc, I found it very interesting, well worth a look at. With my car you only pick up 11km/h between a 3.9 and 3.7, but 11km/h would put me into 68's..... The fastest thing at our clubday was a GTR doing 61's and it's top speed was 210kph, and that was done on a speedgun (Robnell, not Hotwheels!), so again I dunno, try the 3.7 and see. I'd try a 4.1 and a six speed box, or 3.1 and a 2 speed powerglide??

In my experience i always found toe out to cause the car to dart all over the place at high speed making it a scary ride so i have always run a bit of toe in. Worked on my m8's escort a couple of weeks ago(pre club day) and when taking it home to him it was all over the road above 100km/h told him to get some toe in which fixed this and he also said it turned in better i have never tried toe out so i could not say if it turns in better or not just feel it is better to not be fighting the thing all the way down the straight as this is time to relax for us not so fit fellows.

hi guys time for an update. L28 head failed the leak test ( eg rockers removed, all valves closed, pour petrol in the ports and see if it comes out ) one leaks horribly and a couple more less so. so thats crap. so the engine plan has changed. L28 stays in shed, L24E stays in 240k for now. so looks like its time to pull the L26 out of the graveyard and turn it into an L26E ;D with spare efi head and put that in the cedric this is probably good as it doesnt leave a road car with no engine. it may however leave my shed knee deep in L6 head bolts, which it is anyway cedric has c210 skyline twin piston brake calipers, which were siezed up from 10 years with no lines. i had a spare set so they went straight on with lines from the carcass of the R30. it has proper brakes now, slowly getting there.

hold on a sec m8 might not be as bad as you think try this if it has been sitting 4 a while u might have some crap under the valve seat which is causing it to leak get a soft face hammer and tap the top of the valve a few times and the open and close action should dislodge any debris then try testing it again.

Ok ill give it a try, it hasnt been sitting for that long but there is a lot of crap around the port in question. i think it may have kissed the piston, theres a bit of a mark on it. the stuff fairly gushes out of it though
and toe out sucks. i do wheel alignments on the 120y with chalk and string. zero to toe out is darty and awful especially on the gravel. book says 2 to 5mm toe in, i give it 2 to 3. works well. once i got a wheel alignment at beaurepairs and it was total crap. went home and fixed it with string and chalk. save $35

I need to get a wheel alignment done on mine before the 25th, a bit of tow in might be something to think about by the sounds of it.
Maybe the 3.9 will be spot on for Symmons aswell then, would save a lot of time changing diffs between tracks if the 3.9 suited both. It's funny you should mention the 2 speed powerglide Bluerat. I did a few laps with my new 1 speed gearbox on sunday. It had been pulled apart trying to fix an issue going from 5th back to 4th when I last had the car out. Now whenever I accelerated it would pop out of gear unless I was in 4th. So I did a few laps just going around in 4th and going easy down the back straight. Wasn't all that slow either!

Sent it back to mr gearbox fixit man last week and found a nice quiet road in Judbury for some testing Saturday morning. Was all fine except for 5th Mr gearbox fixit man is getting it back tonight so I should have it back for another test run tomorrow night. Hope my neighbours don't get too pissed off and call the cops!

Got the gearbox back in and took it for another run last night. It now has 5 gears all working perfectly. Mr gearbox fixit man was very relieved when I called him to say it was fixed. I think he was about ready to turn it to scrap metal if it wasn't right this time! So I'm all set for the weekend, can't wait

Gee, Mr. Gearbox man sounds like he know's his stuff!!, good to see it going again. and good luck for Sunday, I'm sure you won't need it......better get some action photo's.
Now schools back, my computer access is limited to when the laptop comes home.......
As for Sunday, all I have to do is bolt the tyres back on and off we go.....Moore'y is bringing the Escort up from Hobart, and there is a new fella' running a 180hp Mk2 Escort which should be interesting......Datsltd might have his work cut out to win the class B trophy this time???
What sort of Clown (sorry driving) suit do you have Scando/Baldric etc?? 2 or three layer, any thoughts on what a bloke should buy?? leaning towards a 3 layer RPM at the moment...but they are very hot to wear.....

Hi there Rat I have a 2 layer FIA due to at the time of buying 3 layer was way to dear every thing buy 2 in my house. If 3 are now lower priced go for the best your budget will let you but yes 3 are a bit hotter but you will look more like the stig in white nomex. Baldrick.

I didn't get a chance to look at that video DatsunLtd. Most video sites are blocked at my work and I only have 56K at home. I'll have a look at a mates house though. I got the entry list last night and numbers are a bit down, only 6 in my class. The good news is that there's 4 dattos running! Me in Targa B and then Mick with the yellow Z, the yellow 1600 that run last year, and a 1200 I've never seen before, all in Targa C. So at least there'll be a strong representation. Bluerat, I use one of Kerry's old 3 layer suits. It does get quite hot but I heard 2 layer suits will most likely be phased out soon. When I get around to buying one I'll most likely get the basic 3 layer Sparco one which is about $800 and I think is a better suit than the RPM one which is about the same price I think? 2 later suits seem to be around $600-$700. The basic sparco one also comes in white if you want to look like the stig as Baldrick suggested Have a good day at the hillclimb fellas. Hopefully my brother will be out at the track sunday to get some action shots and maybe some photos of the other dattos running.

Hey bluerat another option for your suit is to get a 2 layer and some fire proof under clothing which cams recognizes as your third layer this way when you are doing hill climbs and club days you can just wear your suit and save yourself from some heat but when you need 3 layer protection slip into your under clothing as well and ye-ha away u go.

So how did the hill climb go northerners? I had a great day yesterday. Qualified pole with a new PB of 61.45, had some issues with somebody that I won't name who was driving like a tool and resulted in me getting frustrated and trying to pass him around the outside at the end of the straight under brakes............Didn't work, I ended up 7th! Got back up amongst them for the other races but struggled with brakes in the 7 and 10 lap races at the end. I was still very happy with 2nd for the day and some good points to start the series. The 1200 coupe was awesome! The guy who is racing it bought it from Melbourne for $5K. It has a NA FJ20 and he got into the 64's. I'll post some photos of it soon. I'll also post some photos of me going backwards into the dirt if I can get them off the guy that took them I also told the guy with the 1200 about the site so hopefully we might hear from him soon....
