Hi Julian. The car looks in fairly good shape and I am sure you will have a lot of fun with it. Take it is John B's old one from Mt Nelson? Its good it has some better seats, roll cage, hydraulic handbrake, firewall, etc Save you a lot of time and money. Tow bar might help with traction in the rear end. You will need some road tyres for the khanacross though, as they don't allow rally tyres (because it cuts up the grass/dirt too much and gives an unfair advantage). I have a friend who has some husslers like the rear ones for sale if you need some, although most people are going for 14 or 15 inch now, due to the cheaper tyres. SI rego is the go. I am enjoying driving mine around on a few special runs. Apart from khanacrosses, might take mine in a few trials and perhaps Baskerville once and a while. Have a full blown PRC 1600 rally car for the big rallies. Speak to you Sunday at the khana. Cheers Mark

Lets go racing, I have done a bit of work to get the old girl ready to do a track day and here she is, tidied up the interior, changed the seats, new harness, roll cage padding, carpet, strut brace, new filters, new hydraulic brake cylinder, oil change (naturally), new wheels and tyres. Loaded it on the trailer ready for Baskerville in the morning, hope I get some sleep tonight as the nerves are on edge. Car looked good at Baskerville today Jullian. Good cheap rally/khana/baskerville car.
Recommend SI rego so don't need to trailer it about and can go for "Sunday" drives and us it as a backup/second car.

Cheers Mark, what a day, what fun, and what a car, go the Datto, for my first time ever at the track in a car I have only driven about 500 mt up and down the road, it performed way above my expectations (1:12:49), I will now give it a coat of paint and steal the extractors of the 720 and that will be it.
Julian.

Thought I best give an update, currently the Datto is suffering the respray curse and what was a 3 week quick respray has turned into many many many delays from the spraypainter, unfortunately if i knew it was going to take this long I would have taken more care with the prep work, any way once again it is booked into the spray booth for the 6th august, let's hope this date sticks and I get out on the track some time soon.

Yeah still want stripes, if I went black bumpers blue stripes would not work, so it's black bumpers and black stripes or chrome bumpers and blue stripes.

Very nice Julian. Black bumpers with black grill/taillights/grill/mags should look good. Becomes complicated if have three colours IMO, but go with what you like.

Well here she is all painted and assembled. Still have to sticker it up to look all racey and get the wheels sorted out but I am now saving every penny for operation Roll Cage which I must get by the end of the year for log booking. Anyway she a different car now, kind off miss the blue but it is certainly a lot neater now. Looks good Juilian. I am in the process of putting a bond bolt-in cage in one of my cars for a log book. Was around $1200 delivered with clamps. Cost more if want intrusion bars, rear harness bar.
I have the main hoop in and the front legs need bolting down, then front windscreen bar. I'll then tag weld the rear support bars in, then remove and get welded properly (only welding needed for bolt in).
Can come around and have a look if want after 13/9.
Have till 30/12/11 to log book cages, otherwise will need full FIA cages!!! So do now. The bond cages are excellent value for money.

THOUGHTS PLEASE: Mucking around with some black plastic, obviously I will space the lettering out a bit better or add 1600 even. Anyway all comments appreciated. Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Looks cool, but perhaps just the stripes no "Datsun"; you have the Datsun 1600 front badges anyway. Or perhaps have "Datsun" or "Datsun 1600" without the front badges.
Black stripes would also suit a matt black bonnet which they had in safari rallies to reduce glare off the bonnet. I'd probably leave it white for now though. A balance between black and white would look great. Keep your mags black.
I wouldn't do any more stripes though. Too many stripes looks wanky and doesn't leave enough room for sponsorship stickers; if you plan on going down that track. what you've got looks somewhat understated, is the right balance, not wanky and looks cool. The stripes, in that area you have chosen, is a good idea, as the space is usually wasted area.
Only problem is that you might want to go for slightly thinner stripes, so that you have enough room for door numbers. Think you need to leave 500x 360 <http://www.camsmanual.com.au/pdf/10_gen_req/GQ12_Schedule_K_Q311.pdf> of white panel. People with white cars sometimes put a black border around this area, but don't think this is mandatory. If you don't have door numbers on the car most of the time, leave the area without black borders, unless you are going for that all out race/rally look.
I would also advise not to put any unpaid sponsor stickers on the car; to make it look racey. If you can't get a good discount or free stuff, then don't ruin your paintwork with bullsh@t stickers.
Like the car Jullian!
Mark.
