Hi,
I'm in need of a stock (working) A12 dissy (late A12) that either I can buy or borrow. I need to see if the electronic pulsar one I adapted is causing me problems.
Or maybe some one can help? Problem is the car will be fine till about 3/4 throttle then it will not accelerate (revs wont increase) even with the choke pulled (it doesn't get better or worse with choke pulled).
Instead the car just stays at one rpm missing constantly almost like its "8 stroking". Sounds like a stutter, its not a hesitation that you can power out off. It just starts stuttering and it wont go past this flat spot no matter the choke/throttle work done. Any ideas?

did you replace the coil and by-pass the ballast resistor ?.

Thanks for the offer Danial but Westbury is a bit out of the way from me (I'm at Snug).
So far ignition wise I've got...
New Bosch Platinum plugs New Bosch leads New Bosch Cap and rotor New Bosch GT40R coil Adapted a pulsar dissy to the old A12 (its been locked and runs no advance either cent. or vac.) Stock ballast resistor
Another issue is that the car will crank but only starts once the key is released onto the ON position BUT the coil DOES spark when cranking in the START position so I'm stumped!

by pass ballast resistor and your should be right. it drops the voltage to seven volts so you dont burn out point's. vehicles with electronic ignition dont use them because they need 12 volts at coil. hope that helps.

Sounds familiar, my problem was eventually traced to the wire that earthed the resistor, sometimes it carried the power, most times it did not engine is an E 15 fitted o a prairie. My 120y A14 behaved like this, I suspected fuel, a mechanic cleaned the entire fuel system in COBAR NSW, found nothing but he did dectect a low voltage supply to No 2 plug, he diagnosed this by grabbing hold of the plug wires while the engine was ticking over and said there was not as much Kick out of no 2 as the rest. No I never tried it and do not recomend this method of Diagnosis. Back home ROSEVEARS, I dismantled the Disy to check if the balance weights were still in place or sticking, I discovere the EARTH Wire on the points were just about worn through down to the last couple of strands, replaced this wire, end of problem. I have a few Disys but I am not in your area. Kind regards Bruce

Ive removed the ballast resistor and not much changed.
Turns out I didn't have enough advance. I run the dissy locked out but I didn't put much advance because I thought too much would ping and not enough would only mean poor power so I set it to a "safe" ~20 degrees just for carb jetting tests but it turns out 20 was no way near enough and up in the revs it would be too retarded and you could hear slight backfires/rumbling in the exhaust note.
So, now I run 30 degrees (max vacuum at idle with 30 degrees) and it starts fine and runs great up to the big lean spot near WOT lol. So I'm working on the jetting. Ive changed the needles and am running a larger main jet.
Oh yeah, If anyone was wondering I'm running 4 Mikuni BS34 motorbike carbs! Tuning is well...like tuning 4 SU's at once! Hah.

Put the points dizzy back in mine today and engine wont start. Replaced ballast resistor still wont start. Now to find / track down the problem. I really dont like ign / elec problems in cars.

have you checked the ignition fuse. or check power supply to balast resistor should have 12 on one side and about seven on other. if that all good turn engine over by hand till points are closed and turn ign on, open points with screwy. they should spark. you can burn them out if you leave your ignition on for to long. so they could be f#*ked. yeah your right but ign problems do suck.
