Hi all
ive been a bit quiet, working from home (working on datsuns) and away from the computer. my cedric runs now and id like to say thanks to SCANDO and the DATMAN for parts and advice. ive got a lot out of this forum so far and i hope it continues!
P.S. big Gemini radiator fits in the 120Y just like lego!

Good to hear the distributor worked mate. So she must be getting close to rego time then? Got much left to do other than the exhaust? haha, I've heard that one before Bluerat. Before I bought my SSS I test drove one in Launceston that had '200hp'. Had some form of single Webber, an exhaust, and maybe a cam. It was a heap of crap that had been cut and shut and he wanted $2K! The one I ended up buying was completely standard..........and it went better I've seen dyno results of a 3.1 L6 marque sports 240Z with 300hp@wheels. I guess this equates to somewhere around 350-400hp at the engine! You never know how accurate the dyno was (I think lots of dynos are callibrated to send customers off with a big hp figure and a big smile to make them feel better about their empty wallet). Anyway......Assuming this 300hp@wheels is true the I don't see why an L20 couldn't produce 250hp or thereabouts at the flywheel? Good to hear the Rats straight. What's the problem with the allignment? While I was involved with the kart shop I put many many karts together and when you put a laser allignment system on them it was very rare that the adjustments would be set the same to achieve the same camber, castor, toe, on each side on a brand new kart. So considering that the steering geometry in a kart is much more simple than in a car, I wouldn't be too concerned if the setup seems a bit difference from side to side!

Get rid of that turbo scando!! Thats a serious donk! The best L20 I've read about was Portmans 2.4l that was 235hp after many, many years of devolopment by Datrally and winning the Oz rally Championship.
Yeah a 1600 is a little more sloppy than a Kart!! It looks like I've got a bent stub axel!!, mind you it's not much only a couple of mm, which put's that side's camber out a degree or two. The way I had it set up with my strut top's the p/s wheel poked 30mm from out of the guards!! I replaced the old struts with these new ones last year, as the old struts were bent the same amount on the same side, Thus thoughts of a bent chassis. Remember when I was asking about bottom arms?? Thats interesting about the Karts, I would of thought a new one would be close spot on? Italian or Aussie welding? Working in the shop, did you have the pick of what chassis you ran?? very handy!!

Bluerat: never fear I have got in contact with the (possible) new owner (the seller is argueing over price he wants more for it) and if the car doesnt suit what he brought it for he will get in contact with me. (Hope he does).
Scando: Dont forget that your car was first set up to run in the high Mongolian altitudes so once you rebuild the engine to Tassie specs you should be able to get at least 500rwhp.

I drove whatever I was given while I was involved with the kart shop but it was free so i wasn't complaining . And most the karts I worked on were Australian but the workmanship on them was usually better then the expensive stuff from Italy. An N/A 3.1 in the Z would be nice but they're too expensive to build. I think a turbo is a much cheaper way to get power. There's a guy from huonville that had an L20 stroker in a 1600. If I remember correctly it put out 120kw@wheels. Last I heard he'd sold it to a mate and it was sitting in a paddock! Well it looks we're moving onto plan No.27 for getting the Z going for next meeting. Tried to put the engine together on saturday but bores 3 & 4 were slightly pitted and it wouldn't hone out. Looks like we have to get it bored and built properly with the forged pistons..........Busy couple of weeks ahead!

Sounds like you will be very happy to get the new engine together. If it all falls into place, It would be handy to build the good engine, develope it over the last part of this season, and put in a big season next year! It would be a boon to be able to fine tune your suspension etc and not have to worry about whats going on under the bonnet. Mind you it all has to fall into place..... Keep nagging him Wombat!!! Have you any more details on suspension, engine work etc yet? I'm just sitting here in the lounge room admiring my new SR20 conversion.......sorry new carpet....same bloody price!!

It would be great to be at a place where I had all the modifications I want to do done and be able to concentrate on getting the little things right. As you say, the sooner I get this good engine built the closer I am to being there. That will leave only Brakes and an LSD to go. I've found that loosing your license is a great way to save money so Hopefully I'll be able to do both those over summer!
The engine builder is confident he can have the block dipped and bored and have it back to us by the weekend so then it'll be up to us to see how quickly we can get the thing going.

Do any of our Southern members know anything about the RX-7 race cars and assorted bits being Auctioned off this weekend??? there seem to be some pretty trick Brake calipers etc on the list??
Talking about pit girls, we were wern't we??, I have found the perfect ones for Scando's next big event!!, have you seen the film clip to 'Destination unknown'?? they are even wearing the right coloured uniforms! I sure you would give your sponsers plenty of publicity with them marching out in front of the Zed!!

Yep, it's MGCC. Received my entry form on tuesday. Sounds like there'll be dattos everywhere. Good to see. I did see the ad for that auction. I don't think the RX7 race cars are actaully race cars. It said race/rally rego so I'd say they're just uncomplied imports. Still be good cars (as Swainey has proved) if you pick one up cheap. Unfortunately I'll be too busy to go. If anybody is going that might place a bid for me then please let me know. I'd be very interested in picking up some of those callipers if they go cheap! I've seen that filmclip.........Haven't paid much attention to the song but I've seen the filmclip Following a bunch of girls marching while wearing those unifroms and playing trumpets would be a great way to rock up to the grid before each race. Might have bad effects though............Don't think my mind would be on the race

Bluerat: I have sent an other email to the guy and am waiting for a reply as far as I know he is still arguing about the price. No more info on the suspension or brakes. I have been a busy boy reading up on the Competition Manuals and Sports Options Parts Catologues that I have for the N10. quite interesting.
All this talk of racing and such is making me edgey.

Sounds scary, a sporting N10 Pulsar!! No disrepect Wombat, but I would of expected them to be more a pamflet, rather than a catologues??? Looks like you still have a foot in the door, good luck.
How many laps per race B10wagon, my very soft tyres are only rated for 1-4 lap's!! Ideal for Hillclimbs and lap dash's....not a 1000km's at Bathurst!, or Symmons.
Has anyone popped out for a look at Rallye Burnie, did you know that they had to supply portable toliets at the start and finish of every stage this year, in case the Police wanted to use them?? I've got two in my driveway!! Loo's that is, not weak bladdered cop's.

bluerat:depends on what your times are because the races are 10-15min long the quickest that do about 10s or 11s they might get in about 5-6 laps and the slow 4 they end the race when the last car has done 4

Hey Bluerat: the Sport Options booklet has 17 pages of options and performance upgrades(Titianium Conrods 100grams). The Competition Tune-up Manual has 57 pages of info to tell you how to save weight and increase power. Dont even get me started on the Cherry ones I have.

Looking good Wombat. I take it the Z isn't a local car?
Well I had a good weekend. The Z is up and running and seems fine so far. Heading to Baskerville to run it in on saturday morning. Hopefully I can get it done and make it back in time to watch the Cats win the grand final.............
On friday the old boy went and had a look at that auction you were talking about Bluerat. He said the callipers were way to big to fit under any wheels we could get on the Z so we didn't bother going down on saturday for the bidding. He said there was an RX-7 road rally car that had belonged to Rick Shaw but that was the only actual race car.
