Hey Adrian Yeah it went that way.Its life is well and truly over.I sold it to my brother and he ran it with 240k wheels painted ford wild violet and standard 13b for a while.I think I fixed my water in oil prob. After work today I whipped the webber manifold off and fitted welsh plugs to the head that supply heated water into standard manifolds. I am hoping they were letting water into intake manifold and that was the problem also changed oil and filter.I will keep an eye on it if it turns out to be head gasket it will be a good excuse to trick up the head some more it has some porting done but looks like a poor job.Have a good one I will keep my eye out for you. Ben

Yeah m8 near the cas so not far from u I still have the hatch so haven't totally gone dato, None of the 1600's are drivable 1 is a project that goes to a new home soon, 1 is my old race car that had zero brakes at the hairpin at symonnds and found the wall at about 150+kmh ouch and the other is a good car rust wise that needs some panel work(remove rear flares to standard arch) so will build 1 top car from the 2 of them but i do have a late model dato the goes lol "sil80". I do have a boat that needs to go back together 350 inboard that I had at Chris st but you might have moved b4 I got that one. Would be good to catch up some time.

Hey Adrian The ratta goes for final sign off for rego tommorow its all good now.It will look dorky as they recon the 13x7 hotties with 185/65s stick out the front guards so its going back in with hotties on the rear and 14 inch gazell rims on the front. Then straight home to change them back. Just need some folding stuff and its all good to go. I scored a free pre pollution 2l head for free today so I am going to port that baby out. I have a 72 degree cam at the moment but I am on the lookout for a 74.Have a good one. Ben

G'day Ben, Is this your car? I took this photo in 1998 at a southern Targa spectator point. In the orginal photo you can see the purple wheels. I was rushing about servicing for a mate and didnt have time for a good look. The reason I took the shot is my brother has a R100 (same taillights) and I have a blue 1600, I wondered at the time did it have a rotary? now I know!! I also didnt know someone had RAT510 plates before me! img188.imageshack.us/img188/8476/rotoratm.jpg

Yo BlueRat,Yeah that is it I reackon my brother still just had it then it would have had stock 13b at that stage. I got the RAT510 plates about 16 years ago wish I still had them I had checked on the plates web site it said they were taken. I was hoping they had not updated their records and by some chance they were available Doh. Apoligies to anybody who works for service Tas or transport but how hard is it to register a car from interstate the amount of hoops you have to jump through. You need patience to try and achieve anything with these guys. It was easier 15 years ago to register the 1600 with rotary than just normal inspection now. Anyway its all good now went for a quick run tonight.Have a good one. Ben

Hey Hodgo What all that for 240k struts tell them there dreaming. ours cammed its way into the Police impound/inspection station here with 2l Webbers etc etc. They were not in the slightest interested. I thought I still had some bike rack RAT 510 plates I think I may have ditched em. Yeah dont get too close to the new one its largely original it came with 30 years of receipts from every globe to oil sparkplugs fuel etc etc good reading.Have a good one. Ben

Be careful who you get to inspect your cars. Choose your inspection station carefully (ask someone in the rally scene where they got theirs done recently and what they were like). Its just that some inspectors use their brains (ie what is fair and reasonable), whilst others will go by the book, regardless of logic.
I have had trouble before, registering my rally car. Initially went to the closest inspection station and they wanted the original seatbelts (as well as the full harnesses), original seats and a whole lot of other restrictive stuff. Didn't take it back to them. Went somewhere more liberal (after asking others) and they were fair and reasonable.
How did they know they were 240K struts? Don't tell them things you don't need to. 240K struts are a superior item so why should they care?
I have recently registered a 1600 with 240K struts & brakes, 5 speed, 2 litre, down draft webber, extractors, different front seats, adjustable control arms & radius rods. A part from a few minor electrical issues, spare tyre not bolted down, no demister (put a hair dryer in), she pasted no problems. No certificate required.
