Thought I'd put some pics on of the worked A15 that I'll be dropping in my 1000 ute. Just got to work out the mounts, bolt on bits like fuel pump, dizzy, carbies, etc and work on the fuel and electric systems. Couple more weeks and it'll be back on the road in Launny. Here's what's in it: A15 block bored 60 thou, with all new bearings, machining, etc Duralite pistons Worked head, with oval ports, big Gemini valves, Holden red heavy duty springs, planed to increase compression Crow cam 623 New water pump, dizzy internals, pretty much replaced everything old for new Twin Hitachi carb's (flat top) with ram tubes and socks Extractors and a 2" system with a sports muffler (exhaust will exit in front of the rear drivers side wheel) The ute is painted Tiger Mica gold, has Centreline mags, drop tank, fluted front guards, stainless rod grill, timber lined tray, tilt hard cover, Commodore wagon tail lights, Cobra race seats, RPM harnesses, new carpets, door trims, centre console, Pioneer stereo, Speco gauges and sports wheel and knob. I've also got some discs to put on it later so it'll stop as well as it goes. Only drove it 3 times before I took it off the road so I can't wait to see what it'll do. I'll put some more pics on later if anyone's interested. Attachments:

I'm no computer geek either, I just take the pics on my mobile and use the Nokia software to download them; there a bit grainy but you'll get the gist. Engine's in, just a few weeks to go; maybe. Attachments:

Here's something I waited a long time to see.....the heart transplant. Today we're soughting the mounts, connecting the fuel pump and lines, bolting up the extractors and carbies, and maybe wiring......if we get all that done we'll fire it up! Finally, cant wait to hear it without an exhaust. Attachments:

Here's a shot of the Carb's with Webber ram tubes. The bolt holes on the rams line straight up with the Hitachi's. It doesn't look it but there's heaps of room; about 50mm clearance from the top of the socks to the underside of the bonnet. Attachments:

looks good! you have a manifold like mine which has the carbs on an angle, they are hard to find. i have had vapour lock problems with SUs on my A14, A-motors give off a lot of heat! heat sheild and header wrap helps but i also got a tip from the triumph club site. i got a few of those little foil pie tins and wrapped them round the float bowls. works a treat, no more vapour lock even in the traffic on a 30 degree day.

Wow - i've read this thread from start to finish. Lovely work and can't wait to see and hear it around town The Carbs will make it absolutely SIIIING! It's good to see a project come together. Gives me a bit of inspiration to get onto mine Any idea of the power output of the lump yet?

Datsunreal: so you run a heat shield and exhaust wrap on your A14, do you run the standard exhaust manifold or extractors? How bout the fan, is it original or thermo? I was going to fit a 9" thermo but now I reckon 12" might be the go, wadyareckon? Also, Dato IS like Lego! Mates who are helping me with the ute are Holden to the bone, but they're loving the simplicity and interchangeability of Datsun bits. Stephy: No idea about kW output, I'd be interested in some estimates if anyone's got an educated guess

If it's running there is a dyno day in Hobart on the 17th July $80, 3 runs and a print out. (I'm putting my Golf on it )

Seems cheap, do you have to book a time or is it first in, first served?

Last i checked you needed to book it in because there are a heap of cars going this time. Give Nick @ GT Garage a bell and see if there are spots left would be the best bet, 0488 322 064 - they don't have a landline yet. Will be good to see what the lump is putting out.

i have 4 into 1 headers on the 140y, with insulation, much more torque frm about 3000rpm than the stock iron lump. i have a gemini radiator, just like a great big 120y job, exactly the same, just bigger (lego doesnt have to be from datto ) i have an electric fan on a switch which i only have to use in traffic and sometimes on hot days. i havent turned it on for about a month. never had coolant overheating problems, its radiant heat from the engine heating the lines and float bowls which gave me greif.

a stock A14 is 80hp, A15 is a bit more than that but better torque characteristics i imagine cos it came from a ute. so you would have to be looking at at least over 100 old fashioned hp at the fly surely. how much over i wont guess. what are your SU jets/needles/springs like?

I love fixing up cars, but I'm no mechanic, I had to Google vapour lock! I've no idea what's in the carb's, I'm hoping I can hook them up and they'll just work. Pulling them apart will be a majorly fiddly job I'd like to avoid. In terms of heat, I'll run the current set up until summer and then make changes if required. We've had a few hurdles with the car and where not finished yet so I'm not 100% certain we'll have the ute on the road by the time the Dyno Day comes round; sorry Steph maybe next year.

Heh - i love cars too, but my favourite part of my whole engine is how sparkly the carbs are! I still don't know what vapour lock is... They have dyno days all the time, the last one was 3 weeks ago, so i'm sure as soon as your baby is running properly you shouldn't have to wait too long to put it on

I reckon I'll do it in a coupla months than, it'd be great to know what the power is so I can calculate the power to weight ratio. I've attached a photo of the headlight surround that I'm chasing, obviously I have one but I'm looking for the passenger side to match. I think it's off a 66-67 model, but I'm not sure. From the research I've done it seems like there are three different grills on the 1000. Can anyone shine some light on this mystery? Attachments:
