its a landrover 2a because you can set them up in your normal brake line as they are a flow straight through system, my mate has 2 of them on his motorkana special, one derection for each rear wheel,
i love killing the british cars to in jap ones, my old kana car was a ke20 corolla that i got cheap, it went all day and never died and killed lots of british cars that cost 50 times as much as it did, it even beat a mgbgt V8..........

Great stuff, does your mate with the special have an uncanny resemblence to Santa Claus??? If so say G'day at Kellyfeild for me. Seemore Motorsports on the mainland have some top looking handbrake set up's which are not to dear ($140 ish) with out cylinder. I'm thinking about getting one of these for mine. www.nwcctas.org.au/2004_0101Motorkhana20060115.JPGhere is a picture of the ol' girl a couple of weekends ago at Wynyard Airport

Yeah I mean Decky, the old legend. I haven't seen craigs special, but sounds like a smart thing. Yeah the fronts are a little wide, I got caught out a bit, I brought them over the phone as 210's, but when they arrived they are around 235mm across the tread. Apparently real race tyres are measured differently to road tyres. Dont tell any one, but they are off a open wheeler, and the same as Damion Moore run's on his Escort.
The car has a Barrett built 2 litre, backed up with an option 1 and a selection of diffs. I usually run Silverstone s575's on 15 by 6 superlites, and the fatty's are on 13 by 7 hotwires.
Big thing at the moment is getting if off the line....springs, and rear end adjustment are being fiddled with......Traction on gravel is completly different to traction on bitumen.

Where you say a Barrett bulit 2 litre is that Peter Barrett bluerat? The car looks good in the photo, I bet it'd be perfect for the motorkhanas too. I might have to come and run a motorkhana sometime, although I don't think my car would be very well suited cause it's a bit laggy.

Yeah, Pete whipped it up back in 2000. You would have no problem at a khana, there was a RB20 something turbo dr30(Ithink??) skyline at Wynyard which went really well. Give it a go, bitumen is great, but maximum fun is grass!!! Power doen't come in to it, just get it to steer.

I know Peter really well. I grew up racing karts against his son Kade. I remember that 200B rally car he had with the 2.4 stroker motor in it? That thing went off its nut! I'd imagine yours would have a bit of kick then too, he sure nows how to build a good datto engine Yeah, a khana might be on the cards sometime then. I want to get it sorted for circuit racing first, and I definatly want to have a crack at some hill climbs

Pete is putting a SR20 into's Kades 120Y, should be a weapon. The Barrretts live 5 minutes down the road from me, and Petes been doing my tune ups for 15 years. His 200B now lives in New Zealand, and it was ARSOM. Kade by all reports, was pretty quick in Karts, funny he is also studing to be an number cruncher.
I'm very keen to have a run at the Domain Hillclimb later on this year, I've been talking about it for 2 years now!! being in Hobart, It would be worth a look at for you and 510 racer. We have 5 or so up here on the Coast every year and they are very popular. Sometimes the Hobart boys come up for a run, Bloody Damien Moore always piches the 2 litre Trophy with his Cosworth Escort, now that is a quick jigger!!!

Scando: Bluerat could most likely do the Highclere Hillclimb with his eyes closed. He's been up that road quite a few times. Very quickly I might add.

Well next time you're talking to the Barretts bluerat, say that shane bond said to say hello. I haven't seen them in quite a while. Yeah, Kade was a very good steerer. Had a lot of natural talent. I think I remeber Pete saying Kade was studying accounting last time I was talking to him but that was a while ago. Kade's 120Y will be quite a weapon with an SR20 in it. Gotta love that power to weight ratio You should try to get a photo of it and put it up on here. That would have to be the nicest looking 120Y I have ever seen by far. I reckon Tom would have to have a quiet moment with himself if he saw it So what's the Highclere hillclimb like bluerat? I've heard the two we have down here, Domain & Colinsvale, aren't all that great. I've heard the lake barrington one is the best by far, well worth the trip to Launceston from what people tell me. I'm about to start the process of getting an engineers certificate for my car so once that's done I'll get SI rego on it and then I'll be very keen for a couple of hill climbs.

hey scando bring ur sunny to a motorkhana if u have it goin, they are good for it but the z should be fine, im going in the domain hillclimb in the 1600, dont know if i should use the advans or the road tyres though as u dont get to warm them up.... datsunreal come out for a look and say hi, im in the crappi white ( 1600 khana car) and say hello, u will know who i am because it has an L20 with extractors running a 2 1/2 " exhaust with no mufflers at all, its so loud inside, i will probably end up deff from driving it, saw the cossy escort at the domain last year, it bloody flew and the noise it made was unbeliviable but the evo's knocked him off because they have 4wd

The sunny is dead I'm afraid 510racer, unless I get another engine to put in it. It'd be no good anyway, it's a beaten up old thing with rooted suspension, etc. And the handbrake accidently became dislodged from the floor on a certain occasion when I was too lazy to do a 3 point turn I'd recommend the Advans for the hill climb. I know my potenzas cold are still a hell of a lot better than road tyres!

Scando, what you have heard is correct, Barrington is a ripper, it's around 2km's, heaps of corners, and small cars usually do really well. It's as slippery as hell, and it loves an agressive driver. Highcleare is good also, but a power hill, powerful cars do well, in slow cars like mine, there are only 2 corners ,a hairpin, and a tight armco corner at the end of a straight, its been going for 27 years so it must be O.K. I like it because I did my first one in 1990.
Rego is handy but you don't need it for most hillclimbs, and I'll mention you next time I'm talking to Pete. It's all top secret about the 120yuk, I'll dont think a photo will be possible!!!!!!
The boys all really enjoy the one we have at Smithton, which has a bit of everything, I have not driven it as I've directed it since it started four years ago, hopefully someone else will step up to the plate next year. It is a real even track, a 1600 RWD corrolla came 3rd this year, and a six cylinder Commadore came 2nd last year, both agaist some tough compition.
Your Z mate from Police point is worth talk to as he came up and did the State Champ. we held last year over 2 days, 1 at Minna rd near Burnie and the other at Highcleare.

Yeah Mick said he went up north to do a couple but I wasn't sure which ones. He also said he just about wrote the thing off in the one the used to run at eagle hawk neck a couple of years ago!
So how many runs do you normally get at a hill climb? It just goes off your best time, not a combination of all your times doesn't it? The guy I bought the car off ran a few hill climbs and said he normally finished fairly well up. I think he only run domain and collinsvale.
I hadn't heard of the Minna Rd and or Smithton ones before. What are they like?

twin turbo SR20, that's different, do you know what turbos he used?
I reckon you would love the one me and bluerat were talking about there Tom. It's a light blue colour with 15's on it. It's very very straight and has a nice paint job to go with it.
That post just reminded me of something Tom
there's an old issue of zoom with a yellow 240Z on the cover. It has the same engine conversion, brakes, etc as mine but has had a lot done to the engine and puts out 270KW @ wheels. If anybody has the issue I'm talking about then I'd love to get a photocopy of that article or buy the issue of you. I have an article on the same car in a fast fours issue but they don't go into much detail.

I'll find you a copy of the Mag, I have it somewhere.
Mick would of done Minna and Highleare last year at the champs. Highcleare is just past the Kart track, turn of at the shop and go down! Minna is next to where Tioxide used to be, just out of Burnie. It looks simple but is quite a challange. Look up the NWCC web site there are photo's of all the hills and Video of Minna(David House in a Commadore) and Higcleare ( Roger Carter in miss Molly), after you watch them, tell me if the Z has this much grunt!!!!
Yeah, It is your quickest time, not an agrigite of the times. Most events have 5 or 6 runs with the first or first two being practise, which do not count in the results. which is very handy. It is really bad form if your practise is faster then you ofical times.
In the NWCC site go into the History photo's you will see a couple of quick Z's. The black one has a rb30 turbo and was very quick, and the Blue one has a 3lre L series, again plenty of power. Yours should put in some quick times as most hills need GRUNT. Roger and miss molly have around 500hp and are usually the quickests car, open wheelers win outright usually, and Brian Tarrett's Skyline GTR is also very quick.

Thanks for the info bluerat. That black 240Z looks tough, Z's look great with symmons, come to think of it all dattos look great with symmons. I couldn't look at the videos cause I'm at work and they've disbaled flash. I'll have a look at home though.
I noticed a couple of x karters in there that I didn't know what they had moved onto like Leigh Price and Darren Anderson.
That would be awesome if you could get me a copy of that Zoom article

Yeah Leigh's RX3 is just fantastic, It would have to be the cleanest car I have ever seen. His brother had, or has, the best 1600 I have ever seen as well. It's a wagon with the full running gear out of a 200SX turbo in it including the rear suspension, full white leather insides, etc etc, near perfection. he borrowed my wheels and ran the domain hillclimb last year, and I saw some photos of it at the Datsun nationals at Wakefeild park, very cool. I would think Jamie and Simon Vandenburg are before your era in karting, And Steff Peters from the NWKC is a life member of the NWCC and also ran some very fast Datsuns. I'll have a look for the article.............
