Leigh and Stuart did pretty well in the karts from what I can remember but were both in older age groups than me. My dad can remember the Vandenburg's racing from when my older brother was racing but I was too young to remember. I know Steff very well but didn't know he ever raced, especially in dattos! That explains why he's good friends with Peter Barrett then. I've helped Steff out a bit with setting up Kyle's kart over the years.

Cool, now I just have to work out how to get that article of you. You're not going to symmons this sunday by any chance are you? I'll have to ask Steff a few questions next time I see him, I had no idea! It'll be interesting to see how Kyle goes in the rally car. He seemed to drive the karts pretty well, very smooth. Steff doesn't have the money to throw at it that lots of the other juniors dads do though.

Send me a personal message with your address and I'll post it down. I'll want it back though, as it has a great story of a 1600 sports sedan. It is better to read the original than some crummy photocopy. How did you go at the khana 510racer??? nail any MG's? whip any mini's?

i finished 9th out of 23 and only got 1 MG and 1 MINI because they were all to fast, and i got a WD on my first run so i buggered up my whole day as in a khana you only get one go at each test. there was a good turnout though and i can easily say i had the loudest car there as our 1600 has no muffler at all just a pipe straight out to the back so it makes some good sounds, i also have those zoom articles as i collect Zoom, (only missing 4 of the buggers) because they have some great articles
cheers

I got the mag thanks bluerat. i'll copy it and send it back next week. That's an awesome issue of zoom! It's got that Z, the 1600 sports sedan, twin turbo valiant, and that nice 2 door Escort! Much more interesting than the newer issues. It seems to be mainly the same things over and over again these days.

Is there such a thing as a NICE Escort?? Well other than a BDA......Which is just a rich man's SR20....Yeah there seemed to be more inovation in the early issues, not just plug it in and go. Not that I read it that often. The new RACE magazine is worth a read, lot's of things to get the brain ticking over.

Escorts aren't really my thing either but it's something different to reading yet another article about yet another turbo rotary drag car. I haven't seen RACE magazine, I'll have to look out for it.

I got very very keen after sunday. Andrew Lamont is doing the log book inspection tomorrow I was talking to Stephen Swain up there and he said the times I'm doing at baskerville should put me in targa 2 but I'll be around 100kw @ wheels down on most of the guys in targa 1 & 2, ouch! He drove bloody well on the weekend, most cars were pulling around 7-8 car lenghts on him down the straight and he still ended up 3rd to Lawson & O'Keefe in the final. 60's out of a fairly standard RX7 is pretty impressive!

Have you been to Symmons yet and got a time??. I would think you would be quick in the 2nd group at Baskerville. A mate of mine Nev, runs pretty quickly in this group, and think's it's a real hoot. He's not that quick at Baskerville, but is competitive at Symmons, doing 63's. How did you go with big Andy?? and Swainy has been quick for years!!!

Wrong Stephen Swain. It's his son with the same name that's having a steer now and doing a bloody good job of it.
Is Nev the bloke in the Brown/Gold Commonwhore that Wombat pointed out to me?
I haven't been to Symmons with the car yet so I don't know what it would do.
I'm not sure if they'll put me in group 1 & 2 or group B & C (which your mate runs). The times I'm doing for baskerville should put me in group 1 & 2 but I reckon I'd get killed in that group at Symmons cause I wouldn't have enough power.
Andrew hasn't been able to come log book the car yet, his ute broke down and he had no transport.

Yep, Nev in the Commadore. Nev was saying the othe night that it comes down to what times you are doing. If you are doing better than 65's at Symmons (I think?) you will be asked to go up into the fast group, and you loose points in the slower group if you go faster than that. It might come down to your qualifing?. It's a ripper of a class, basically no stupid rules, Another mate, and Nev's Rally Tas Navigator, was cleaning them up last year, in a very basic FJ20T powered 1600, so a 'Big Block', big turbo, Z car should have no problem's!!!!!

I think if you go below 62.5 at baskerville they put you into the fast group and I got down to 62.1 last time. I'm pretty sure I'll get it to go faster too cause Mick with the yellow 240Z is going to lend me some different swaybars to try so hopefully I'll be able to get it to lean over and bite a bit more off the corners instead of kicking the back out sideways everywhere. The extra rubber on the track at a race meeting will bring the times down too. The other option is to take it easy in qualifying so that I get put in the slower group for a start I just realised in that last post I wrote it changed Commonwh0re to to commonsleeper, there's some strange censoring on this site Did you get the magazine back?

Yeah, thanks i received the mag back o.k.
I'll be interested on how the sway bars work out!! Is your rear bar ajustable? if so soften it up a bit, or stiff up the front a bit, this usually dials out oversteer?? although you have proberly tried this.
You wouldn't want to pay much for a common sleeper!!! You should try uncommen non sleeper next time!

No my rear bar isn't adjustable unfortunatly, and it's a bloody big one too! I think it's 22mm and I think the front one is around 16mm which I'm pretty sure is standard. So the plan is a very small rear bar and then possibly a bigger front bar depending on what it does once we change the rear one.

The 'Bible' say's the std Z front bar is 17mm, and the 'works' BRE Z's ran a 23mm front bar with the 22mm rear. It also say's that if the Std 17mm bar is used then an 18mm rear should be used, or 'you could promote pretty vicious oversteer!' sound familiar?? hope this help's.

Thanks for the info there Bluerat, should be very useful. Sounds like they work best if both bars are about the same size then. Makes sense I suppose since they're pretty close to 50/50 weight distribution. Yes, vicious oversteer sounds very familiar What is this bible you preach from? Sounds much more interesting than the one my grandparents tried to get me to read when I was young

The best way of looking at it is....Larger front bar will give you more understeer, and a larger rear bar will give you more oversteer...that is, on a RWD car with similar front and rear suspension types eg a Z or 1600....as for solid rear axels and front wheel drives they are a different story. As for the Bible, I cant give all my secrets away...
