i went to see the R30, it isnt half what its meant to be. the box is r30 not 280, and the diff is not lsd nor is it an r200. its just a disk rear from a later model. in all its iffy and none of the mods can be authenticated. ive made him an offer just for the l28 mainly so with luck ill get it down here and cannibalise it.

Yeah, I gathered from talking to him on the phone that the gearbox and diff weren't what he said. As for whether or not the engine has had all the stuff done, there's no way of verifying it. Would have been a nice engine for the Z with a decompression plate if it is true but it's all a bit dodgey for me!

The engine in this car was rebuilt last year (if it is still the same engine) i had a look at this engine after it was rebuilt because it would not start dont know much about the assembly but it was super tight to turn over. driift.6.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=32

Does the car still have the Simmon's?, They would look good on the Zed! or the K, Hey boost, I saw a 1600 on a site recently with a l28, doing 10's at the drag's....and their used to be a pretty quick 180B sports sedan getting around fitted with the big six! food for thought?

i was there when the engine was being done, and yeah enginewise it has what it says.. the reason it wouldnt turn over was the timing chain tensioner had popped out.. but its fixed now

the simmons are long gone. and yeah get a six, theyre hot. how come tom and boost were there when the engine was built/installed? and how do you know that the engine work is genuine? where is "there" anyway? do you guys know Kovac or the previous owner? so many questions! im not paranoid, if im gonna get this engine i really would like to know as much as possible about it and whats been done to it as we all know how difficult it is to tell sometimes.

it was assembled at school (launceston college), but them machining was done at a engine shop in franklin st in launceston, the block is from a patrol.. i dont know kovac but previous owner was a classmate.. now owns an r32.. i remember he had to get new pistons because the ones he got were standard size, (not his fault they ordered the wrong ones)..

Here is how the story goes as i know it i was not there when the donk was built i came along l8tr as the apprentice at work is m8s with Jayson who built the engine and ask me to take a look at why it would not start. I turned up at LC after work one night to have a look they had rotation of the leads back to front so that was rectified tried to start the engine with batteries that were almost flat so this was a non event went away and came back the next night after batteries were charged all day motor was then cranked but it struggled to turn over started to do some fault finding and noticed the motor was hard to turn by hand suggested disassembly to find what was making engine tight but don't think that was welcomed real well after the dramas that had unfolded which i can understand after a rebuild the last thing u would want is to pull it down i would imagine. Last i heard he took it to fueltec and they got it going i walked away after the second night because you don't do your time on crap money learning a skill to work 4 free the motor had a standard head and cam so wouldn't think it would be any great powerhouse but it is prob a good platform to build on especially if you need to do a head gasket anyway.

Hey bluerat i would think the extra power of a 6 would be nice but i think the sacrifice in handling with the extra weight would far out way the gain unless it was mid mount but that would be sad to cut up a classic.

Yeah, I know, I was just trying to change the subject! Sound's like it might be easier to buy a l28, give it a bore, a balance, some head work, and a work's copy cam, then you know what is in it. Do it your self, and It might come in under a $1000.

just getting the L28 in the first place is damn difficult enough, let alone carting it about to machine shops ect !! then i wouldnt get rear discs, another spare 5 speed and other goodies from the R30. but i also wouldnt have to tow it all the way from bloody latrobe, which is close to 300km from campania. if anyone has contact details for the guy who built the engine, let me know. im supposed to be picking this shitbox up on the weekend. its driving me nuts ARRRRGHHH!

the block is from a patrol.. Most patrols come with the F54 block which apparently is the best L6 block you can get! The reason is something to do with having recesses in the block so that you can run huge valves without doing any machining.

Datsunreal, did you see the 280ZX in the saturday Mercury. $400 and it was a manual! I called up about it at 7:30 on the saturday morning and it was sold already. I found out it belonged to the son of one of the local Huonville cops and he wrote it off. They must have wanted to get it away from the front of their house quickly

Anyone go the the Touring cars??, I've changed my mind a little, they were doing 51's and 57's in the wet!!! pretty damn quick!! the Nc's were fantastic. 'Dallas Crane' was even racing a HQ!!
After seeing the merchandising truck's in action, I'm plannig on a few 'Bluerat' product's for the next hillclimb/motokhana/clubday including stylish cufflinks, Datsun Blue Safari suits for the ultimate in satorial elegance, Brandy Balloon's and pweter cigar box's. Maybe a limited edition 'blue' label 100 year old Whisky. What do you think??
